The Scale of Democracy: Managing the Fifth-Largest Voting Jurisdiction in the Country

Michael Alvarez, Flintridge Foundation Professor of Political and Computational Social Science at Caltech and Co-Director, Linde Center for Science, Society, and Policy (LCSSP).
During this episode of Election Science Office Hours, Professor Alvarez’s guest will be Bob Page, Registrar of Voters (ROV) for Orange County, California. Professor Alvarez and ROV Page will explore the complex logistics of administering elections for Orange County’s 1.9 million registered voters. The discussion will highlight ROV Page’s transition from investigative journalism to election leadership and his commitment to maintaining a process that is accessible, secure, and transparent. They will also dive into the technical challenges of modern voting.
ROV Page was appointed on March 11, 2022, by former County Executive Officer Frank Kim. He is also Treasurer and member of the Board of Directors for the California Association of Clerks and Election Officials and a member of the California Secretary of State Voter’s Choice Act Task Force.
Prior to joining Orange County, ROV Page worked for San Bernardino County for more than 20 years in roles for the Board of Supervisors, for the CEO, for Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, and as the Registrar of Voters from 2018 to 2022.
