Election Science Office Hours: A Conversation on AI and Governance in Elections with Betsy Sinclair, Assistant Vice Provost of Digital Transformations at WashU
Please join us on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 11:00 am Pacific for the next installment of Election Science Office Hours, a webinar series presented by the Caltech Election Integrity Project and moderated by R. Michael Alvarez, PhD, Flintridge Foundation Professor of Political and Computational Social Science at Caltech and Co-Director, Linde Center for Science, Society, and Policy (LCSSP).
During this episode of Election Science Office Hours, Professor Alvarez's guest will be Betsy Sinclair, PhD, Assistant Vice Provost of Digital Transformations, the Thomas F. Eagleton University Professor of Public Affairs and Political Science, and Chair of the Political Science Department at WashU.
Professors Alvarez and Sinclair will be discussing our January virtual conference, and more importantly will discuss our future October conference at WashU, "Protecting the Election: AI & Governance Conference," October 16-17, 2025, to discuss research regarding AI and governance and how this applies to U.S. elections.
Betsy Sinclair's research interests are located in American politics and political methodology with an emphasis on individual political behavior. She focuses on the social foundations of participatory democracy — the ways in which social networks influence voting, donating, choosing a candidate or identifying with a particular party. Her other interests are broadly defined as those involving voting and elections and range from evaluating the consequences of different voting technologies to developing techniques to draw causal inferences from social network data.
