A Conversation with Microsoft's Matt Masterson to Discuss Elections, Technology, and the Current Information Environment

Please join us on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 11:00 am Pacific for the next episode of Election Science Office Hours, a webinar series presented by the Caltech Election Integrity Project and moderated by R. Michael Alvarez, PhD, Flintridge Foundation Professor of Political and Computational Social Science at Caltech and Co-Director, Linde Center for Science, Society, and Policy (LCSSP).

In this episode, Professor Alvarez and Mr. Masterson will be discussing information integrity and how that impacts the U.S. elections landscape.

Matt Masterson is an experienced leader focused on the intersection of technology and democracy, currently serving as Senior Director, Elections and Societal Resilience, at Microsoft after a marked career in government service. Previously, Mr. Masterson served as Nonresident Fellow at the Stanford Internet Observatory, Senior Cybersecurity Advisor for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Prior to that time, Mr. Masterson was nominated by President Barack H. Obama and confirmed by unanimous consent of the United States Senate to serve as Commissioner of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC). Prior to that, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff / Chief Information Officer for the Ohio Secretary of State's Office, and Deputy Director of the Testing and Certification Division of the U.S. EAC.

Mr. Masterson was admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio and is a graduate of the University of Dayton School of Law. Prior to law school Mr. Masterson received BS and BA degrees from Miami University of Ohio.
